But she became an outspoken critic, writing a tell-all book about her experiences inside the West Wing. She went on to hold senior positions in the White House, including press secretary. Grisham joined Trump’s political operation when he was running in 2016. ![]() ![]() Now they’re outside and largely on their own. Once snugly inside Trump’s orbit, they may have provoked him by doing their jobs as they understood them or speaking candidly about what they considered his failings. History shows there are all sorts of ways to leave Trump aggrieved, and some who feel they’re in jeopardy worked directly with him or believed in his agenda. Which, of course, is not the same thing as cooperating against him, but was perhaps meant to send a message.A natural assumption would be that the targets of Trump’s ire are Democrats or political rivals who tried to beat him at the ballot box. As The Messenger notes, former Trump adviser (and Atlanta codefendent) Jenna Ellis-who complained online about not getting any financial assistance from Trump-has also recently expressed support for his chief 2024 rival, Ron DeSantis. While it was not entirely clear why Trump decided to do Giuliani a solid, one likely explanation is that he’s attempting to ensure Rudy doesn’t flip on him, which attorneys have suggested might occur as a result of leaving the 18 other people charged in Fulton County, Georgia, high and dry re: legal bills. The announcement of that dinner came shortly after the former mayor reportedly begged Trump, on more than one occasion, to throw him financial bone. While Trump’s Save America PAC has handled much of his many, many legal bills, according the The Messenger’s sources, the money raised at this dinner-for which an exact date still has yet to be set-will go into the Patriot Legal Defense Fund, which was set up in mid-July and designed to “primarily help Trump’s codefendants and witnesses in the cases against him.” Last month, Trump invited people to a $100,000-a-plate fundraiser that will be held tonight at his Bedminster golf club to raise money for Rudy Giuliani, who can’t pay his bills after going all in on the ex-president’s failed election coup. It’s not clear if “family style” means the food will be placed on the table and everyone can serve themselves, “family style” as in “ when you’re here, you’re family,” or “family style” in that Trump is a mob boss and nobody better think of going against the family. “It’s a family style dinner, very intimate and exclusive,” a Trump official told The Messenger. The fundraiser, which is expected to raise as much as $1 million, will reportedly be modeled after similar events Trump has previously held in the private Mar-a-Lago dining rooms, with the four-time-indicted man of the hour “seated in the middle of a long table,” surrounded by roughly two dozen guests. The Messenger reports that the ex-president, Don Jr., and Eric Trump are planning “a candlelight dinner” at Mar-a-Lago this fall to raise legal defense funds for the Donald’s many codefendants and witnesses, according to people familiar with the matter.
